Art and Faith

We invite you to join us this fall for a meaningful and visually rich adult class series on Wednesday evenings, beginning September 10 and running through November 19, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. We do not meet on October 8 for Fall Break. Also, there is no adult class on October 15 for Intergenerational Mission Night, but consider joining us for dinner and the project, 5:30-7:00.

Our guide for this 9-week journey will be Lynne Berry, a gifted art historian and teacher, using the book 75 Masterpieces Every Christian Should Know: The Fascinating Stories Behind Great Works of Art, Literature, Music and Film by Terry Glaspey. Through Lynne’s insightful teaching, we will explore how great works of art have expressed the Christian faith through the centuries.

Our host and Lynne’s teaching partner will be congregation member Joseph Davis, who said, “I’m interested in the subjects of art and history and theology, and especially where they all collide.”

About the Class Each week, we’ll take a closer look at universally admired paintings such as The Return of the Prodigal Son by Rembrandt, The Incredulity of Thomas by Caravaggio, The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, and the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo. These masterpieces will be paired with other works by the same artists or pieces on similar themes to deepen our understanding and spiritual reflection. Whether you’re an art lover or someone looking to enrich your spiritual life, this class offers a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and depth of Christian faith through the lens of visual art.

About the Instructor Lynne Berry has taught classes on religious art since 1998 at the Church of the Nativity and other local churches. She recently taught the history of American art at Lowe Mill and is a frequent contributor to WLRH’s Sundial Writers Corner with a series called Art on the Radio. Lynne’s passion for art and her gift for teaching will bring these works—and the faith behind them—to life.

Book Information The book is available on Amazon in new, used, and Kindle editions. While it is a helpful resource, owning the book is not required to enjoy or participate in the class.

Mark your calendars and plan to join us for this inspiring midweek series. Register now for Wednesday Night Live at bit.ly/WNLfall25. Consider joining us for dinner after class! We look forward to seeing you there!

Mission Trip to Guatemala – June 2026: Let Us Know If You’re Interested!

We’re excited to begin planning for another trip in June 2026 — and we’re inviting members of our congregation to consider joining this life-changing journey!

But first, we need your input.
If you think you might be interested in joining the 2026 team, please let us know which weeks in June 2026 you are available. This will help us choose the best week for the trip based on team availability.
